MLTC Schedules January Byelection

The Meadow Lake Tribal Council will hold a byelection to replace outgoing chief Richard Gladue on January 6th.
The date was agreed upon at the MLTC’s chiefs meeting last month.
Potential candidates have until December 6th to declare their intention to run.
Whoever wins might only be in office for a short period of time. That’s because the regularly-scheduled tribal chief election takes place next October. The winner of that vote will receive a four-year mandate to lead the MLTC.
Gladue announced earlier this year that he was leaving the MLTC after 11 years as chief.
He will be taking on a new job with the provincial department of First Nations and Metis Relations in January.
His last official day in office will be December 31st.
