A Metis registry is in the works.
The Metis Nation – Saskatchewan is looking for five people to fill jobs such as director and geneologist to help create a registry of all the Metis in Saskatchewan.
MN-S President Robert Doucette says having an up-to-date registry is important because it has implications on things like hunting and fishing rights.
Doucette says whoever is hired will essentially be starting from scratch.
Doucette says both provincial and federal governments are keen on getting a registry so they know who the Metis citizens are.
He says the Metis are also eager to be registered, because he thinks there is an upswelling of pride within the Metis community.
