Metis Nation of Saskatchewan officials might be on the hook for costs associated with Cameco’s bid to prevent a roadblock last week.

Cameco averted a potentially costly blockade of a highway to two of its mine sites by securing a court injunction.

It also filed a statement of claim against the MNS and its treasurer, Ray Laliberte.

The claim states that Cameco racked up substantial costs to try to stockpile necessary resources, including propane, which would have kept the mines operational longer had the roadblock been allowed to proceed.

There’s also the matter of legal costs.

Cameco spokesman Lyle Krahn says the company had to file a statement of claim in order to secure the injunction.

He won’t comment about the possibility of Cameco seeking costs from the MNS, but does say lawyers from both sides are in contact with each other.
