Moosomin Band Member To Go To European Battlefield

A grade 12 band member from West-central Saskatchewan will tour the Battlefields of Europe next month.

17 year-old, Yona Jimmy recently won the opportunity after writing an essay about Aboriginal Veterans in an Indian Affairs contest.

Jimmy says First Nation’s and Métis kids should be aware of the fact many of their elders died for them, and the freedoms they enjoy today.

Jimmy herself is related to a veteran.

Jimmy leaves on October 25th for France and Belgium. She’ll be joined by 12 other Aboriginal kids from various provinces and territories.
