A Moosomin First Nation man has been sentenced to 16 months in jail for not properly caring for his infant son.

Shawn Patrick Swiftwolfe received that sentence in Battleford Court of Queen’s Bench yesterday.

The charges cover a period from the child’s birth to March of 2006 when he was 13 months old.

Among other things, the child was found to have severe malnutrition, bruises on his face and body, and sores on his nose and penis.

Crown Prosecutor Mitch Piche notes Justice Dennis Maher never did get an explanation about the bruising.

Seven other charges were withdrawn by the Crown.
