The chief of Prince Albert’s police service says the department has significantly increased the number of First Nations officers on the force.
Over the past 18 months, Dale McFee says a concerted effort was made to increase the Aboriginal make-up of the force — and he feels that’s reflected in the latest numbers.
McFee says the number of First Nations officers has jumped from 3 to 7. He also claims 35 per cent of the force has some form of Aboriginal ancestry.
McFee believes the creation of a mentorship program for Aboriginal recruits is another positive step forward.
