As many as 39 witnesses may be called for the preliminary hearing of a man charged with murder on the Little Red River reserve.
This morning, the lawyer for 27-year-old Henry Bird told court his client wished to be tried by judge and jury if and when his trial takes place.
Bird stands charged with the second-degree murder of 29-year-old Clayton Ballantyne.
Police discovered the victim’s body outside a reserve home earlier this summer.
Bird also is accused of trying to kill another man in a related incident.
The judge presiding over today¹s matter ordered a pre-trial hearing be held to discuss particulars regarding the case.
That is set for November 16th.
The date for the preliminary hearing is expected to be announced shortly thereafter.
