SaskPower is getting ready to upgrade another section of the transmission line that runs from Prince Albert to La Ronge.

After years of haggling with residents in Christopher Lake about the route of the PA8 line, that section finally got finished last year.

Now, the Crown utility is turning its sights on the TC5 transmission line between the Timber Cove switching station and a regulator just north of Weyakwin.

If everything goes as planned, the 70-kilometre stretch of line should be in place before the winter of 2006/2007.

SaskPower spokesman Larry Christie says that process begins next week with consultation meetings in La Ronge and Weyakwin next week. However, he doesn’t expect the same kind of delays encountered when the PA8 line was being revamped.

SaskPower is upgrading the line to meet the demand for increasing electricity needs in the region. Christie says the timeline for the upgrade of the remaining 100 kilometres of line to La Ronge will depend on load growth.
