MP Cynical Of Timing Of Residential School Deal

Northern Saskatchewan MP Jeremy Harrison is questioning the timing of the federal government’s $2-billion dollar settlement for residential school survivors.

Harrison says while he supports the agreement, he notes the plan announced yesterday is very similar to the one the Conservatives were pushing for last year in the House of Commons.

Harrison says a motion to that effect passed despite the Liberals’ opposition at that time.

Still, Harrison says he’s glad the Liberals finally came around on this issue — even though the government’s commitment has come on the eve of an election campaign.

Harrison says the Conservatives will make good on the compensation agreement announced yesterday if the Tories come to power in the coming election.
