National Chief Calls For AIDS Prevention Efforts

Assembly of First Nations national chief Shawn Atleo says the way to win the fight against HIV/AIDS is to stop new infections.

Atleo says that means educating people about the risks and how to protect themselves.

He notes that Aboriginal women make up almost half of all new cases in Canada.

Atleo is calling on all levels of government to provide for HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment services in their health transfer agreements.

Today is World AIDS Day.
