The Metis Nation – Saskatchewan has officially opened a new family resource centre in Melfort.
The centre, operated by MN-S Eastern Region II, offers places for needy citizens to stay and helps find them work.
Features include court worker services, kitchens where people can learn to cook and diabetes education.
The Clarence Campeau Development Fund helped launch the new facility with a donation of $50,000.
Eastern Region II area director Helen Johnson says it was the tireless efforts of several local elders who laid the groundwork for the centre.
The facility is housed in an old church that was previously run by the YWCA.
It has been operating for the past month.
