North Battleford Urban Reserve On The Horizon

A deal to make 347 acres of land in the east end of North Battleford into an urban reserve should be completed in about two months, according to the city’s mayor.

Now that Sheldon Wuttunee has been re-elected as chief of the Red Pheasant First Nation, both sides hope to finalize an agreement.

Representatives of the city and the band have been negotiating to turn the property into an urban reserve for years.

Mayor Julian Sadlowski is pleased with the way negotiations have been handled –- and says the band hasn’t been asking for “freebies”.

When it becomes a reserve, the land is expected to be home to several businesses, a new First Nations high school and housing for band members.
