North Likely Won’t Be As Wet As First Thought

An official with the Saskatchewan Watershed Authority admits the spring runoff forecast for the northern boreal forest has been toned down since last month.

In February, the government agency predicted a large section of northern Saskatchewan would see “well above normal” runoff — with La Ronge experiencing the brunt of it.

Doug Johnson says his group is still expecting “above normal” runoff in the region — but communities like the Red Earth Cree Nation likely won’t see the kind of water they’ve experienced in recent years.

Johnson attributes the revised forecast to the fact the region received less snow than expected over the last month.
