Northern Affairs Amalgamated Into Other Ministry

Saskatchewan Northern Affairs is no longer a stand-alone provincial department or ministry.
First Nations and Metis Relations Minister June Draude confirmed this morning that it is being rolled in with her ministry.
Draude says she’s visiting La Ronge today to talk to Northern Affairs employees about how they see themselves fitting into the restructuring.
She says the Saskatchewan Party government wants to avoid a duplication of responsibilities between ministries.
Draude also doesn’t think northerners should jump to the conclusion that northern issues aren’t as important under the new government.
As well, she says it’s too early to say if government jobs in La Ronge will be lost — but she says it’s possible there may be more ministry staff posted in the community.
