Northern Drug Squad Posts More Successes

It appears Northern Saskatchewan’s new drug enforcement unit is beginning to make its presence felt.
It’s been less than two months since the seven-member squad began operating, but already the provincial government says numerous arrests have been recorded and both drugs and weapons alike have been seized.
In total, 17 g. of cocaine and 3.6 lbs. of marijuana have been confiscated, along with three firearms.
Insp. Mercer Armstrong says the unit has experienced a few hiccups along the way, but overall they feel good about where they are:
“There’s always a few teething problems when you start a new unit. Those have been very minor, and a lot of it is the communication with the various detachments, and that is being built on. And as the team is successful, then obviously other detachments will want to use the team to assist them in their investigations,” Armstrong says.
Armstrong says the officers involved could be in locations stretching from Spiritwood to La Loche on any given day, which is why tips from the public are so important.
