The Northern Saskatchewan Trappers Association has been given a new name.

Fur harvesters at the group’s annual convention in Prince Albert over the weekend voted to re-name the organization the Northern Saskatchewan Trappers Association Cooperative.

As well, the group re-elected much of the old executive to another term in office, including president Clifford Ray.

Ray says he’s excited about decisions made at the conference, including the group’s new name.

He says the purpose of the change is to let people know the group is also geared towards business.

Ray notes the organization wants to begin making its own clothing, and maybe dip into some tour-guiding in an effort to make more money.

In another development, the NSTAC has begun to accept trappers into its ranks from areas south of Prince Albert.

Ray says the move has been made with the blessing of the trappers organization that looks after southern Saskatchewan.
