On-Reserve Health Services Irk Doctor

A doctor at the Big River First Nation health clinic says not enough attention is being paid to the plight of residents on-reserve.
Dr. Solomon Vaska recently held a meeting with band leaders where various medical problems were discussed at length.
He says the problems include a lack of emergency services on the reserve and inferior medical facilities.
Vaska says the meeting went well — but, unfortunately, no one with the ability to change things in the health care system showed up.
Vaska says the first thing he wants to do is raise awareness about the problem.
However, he refuses to bring the issue up at a regular meeting of the local health authority.
He says if people want to solve the problem, they should contact him directly.
