PA Mill Still Closing Despite Government Pleas

A spokesman for Weyerhaeuser says they’re not prepared to lose money just to satisfy the government.

On Friday, NDP Minister Eldon Lautermilch publicly urged the company to keep the Prince Albert Pulp Mill open past its closure date of April 13th.

Lautermilch says interest is growing in the plant and the move would enable new owners to take over the mill seamlessly.

However, Weyerhaeuser spokesman Wayne Roznowsky says the company has done all it can for the struggling mill and won’t delay the shutdown.

Roznowsky says even if a company came through with a huge offer tomorrow, there would still be downtime.
