The provincial government is finalizing plans to construct a 15-bed youth addictions treatment facility in Prince Albert.
The ministry of Health has reached a capital funding agreement with the Prince Albert Grand Council and the local health authority.
Community care branch director Roger Carriere says the facility could be up and running within a year’s time, depending on the availability of contractors.
Carriere says the partnership is a unique arrangement for all of the parties involved.
“While there have been certainly collaborative relationships before, I think this is the first time that the provincial government and First Nations have actually worked together to build a facility,” he says.
Carriere adds that work is already underway to design programming for the centre.
