PAGC Chief Slams Ottawa’s Private Eye Plan

The chief of the Prince Albert Grand Council is dismissing Ottawa’s new plan to send private investigators to look into claims of residential school abuse as a waste of time.
Gary Merasty says the federal government has already spent more money in stalling tactics and lawyers’ fees than payouts to any survivors of abuse.
Meanwhile, officials with the government say the move is intended to speed up compensation delivery, as some verification of abuse is needed.
Reports indicate three different firms in Saskatchewan are being approached on a contractual basis.
Merasty says he can’t understand the government’s logic behind this decision.
