Park Attendance Hurt By Liquor Ban

An official with Saskatchewan Environment says he’s confident light attendance figures over the May long weekend will be reversed over time.
Assistant Deputy Minister Dave Phillips says attendance at provincial parks was down 27 per cent this past weekend.
He’s not sure what the exact totals were in the North, but a worker with Lac La Ronge Provincial Park confirms overall numbers were light.
Phillips says the shortfall was likely due to the alcohol ban placed on the parks. But he feels that should ease over time, especially as the word gets out to young families that wild parties aren’t being tolerated.
Phillips says most of the campers the government has talked to this year also support the ban, despite the low numbers.
He says one written warning was issued at Lac La Ronge, but aside from that, very little trouble was reported at northern campgrounds.
