After years of fruitless negotiations, the Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation is taking legal action for traditional lands that were flooded decades ago.
Chief Ron Michel confirmed the news this morning after being contacted by MBC.
The PBCN is suing SaskPower, the provincial government and the federal government for damage caused by the installation of the Island Falls dam in 1929.
The lawsuit was filed in December after Peter Ballantyne officials were unable to get a satisfactory settlement offer from SaskPower.
Michel doesn’t want to get into details until he consults with the band’s legal counsel, but promises he will have something to say about the matter on Thursday.
