Pelican Narrows resident Harold Linklater is the new chief of the Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation.
According to unofficial results from yesterday’s byelection, Linklater received 550 votes.
His closest competition was Hector Morin, who finished with 351 votes.
Ernest Cook was third with 345 votes.
A total of nine candidates were in the running to replace former chief Ron Michel, who’s now the chief of the Prince Albert Grand Council.
The band’s chief electoral officer says 53 per cent of eligible voters cast ballots in yesterday’s byelection.
Because voting was carried out in seven communities, the results won’t become official until the numbers are verified.
