Petition Started Over New La Ronge Courthouse

A La Ronge woman has started a petition against plans to have the community’s new courthouse built on lakefront property.

A sod-turning ceremony for the new building will be held this Friday on a parcel of land adjacent to the local Royal Canadian Legion hall.

But Anne Hryniuk says there are precious few locations like that left in the community.

She also wonders why town council is letting it happen, when this sort of development has been opposed and thwarted in the past.

Hryniuk says she just found out about the development about a week ago when she noticed surveyors on the site.

She says, based on discussions she’s had with other local citizens, it appears many people in La Ronge haven’t been made aware of the plans — let alone consulted about it.

Town officials have not been immediately available for comment.
