Protestors Denied Access to Band Office

A judge in Prince Albert has upheld an injunction preventing protestors in Pelican Narrows from entering the community’s band office.
It was on August 21st that RCMP served the dissident members with the papers requiring them to leave the office which they had occupied for roughly a week.
The incident stemmed over the 2.8-million-dollar settlement the band received from the provincial government for gas and tobacco tax it collected on reserve.
The protesters wanted the band to award each member four hundred dollars while chief and council stated a lesser amount was the best it could do.
This morning, a lawyer for the protestors asked a judge at Court of Queen’s Bench if the members could have access to the band office again, if they agreed to not occupy the office again.
However, the judge ruled in the band’s favour and the protestors are still barred from entering the building.
It’s not known when the order will be lifted.
