Province Committed To Building All-Weather Roads

Saskatchewan’s highways minister says he’s not sure a boost in infrastructure spending by Ottawa will necessarily be felt in the transportation system in the province’s far north.
Earlier this month, Stephen Harper and the country’s premiers agreed that fast-tracking infrastructure projects would help stave off a recession in the national economy.
However, Wayne Elhard says the federal government is likely talking about short-term projects to spend its money on, and not the Athabasca all-weather road project.
He says the province is still committed to completing the project, but it could take a long time to finish without help from Ottawa.
Elhard says it’s important Saskatchewan get a specific commitment from Ottawa on northern infrastructure spending.
