Public hearings will take place in Saskatoon next week to address the state of drinking water on First Nations reserves.

Harry Swain is the Chairman of the group carrying out the event. He says Indian Affairs Minister Jim Prentice wants feedback from the First Nations community about how new regulations should be carried out and enforced.

Swain says right now provinces and territories can set guidelines on water quality and sewage matters, but there needs to be national standards.

He adds the panel also hopes to gather feedback on what laws should be used to enforce the standards.

The hearings begin July 26th at the Radisson Hotel in Saskatoon.
