Three more projects have been approved under the multi-million-dollar Northern Development Agreement.
More than $1.3 million has been committed for further upgrades to the seasonal road between Points North and Stony Rapids, for a study near Cumberland House on harvesting fiddlehead ferns as a gourmet food product and for conducting research in La Ronge on distilling essential oils from boreal forest plants.
The Northern Development Agreement was signed in 2002 by the provincial and federal governments.
It committed $20 million in government funding over five years for northern Saskatchewan economic development initiatives.
To date, just over $7 million has been diverted to 19 approved projects.
