Roth Prepared To Call For Another Metis Election

Metis Nation of Saskatchewan President Dwayne Roth says he’s now open to the idea of having another Metis election this fall.
The MNS has seen its funding stripped by both the federal and provincial governments in the wake of last year’s controversial vote, which was fraught with allegations of vote-rigging.
Roth has stated repeatedly that last year’s election was run fairly and that there is no need to hold another election.
But now, Roth says he’s willing to recommend to the delegates attending the upcoming Metis Nation Legislative Assembly that a new election be called.
In exchange, Roth wants the province to contribute $100,000 for the election, and also fund next week’s MNLA.
Roth says it’s become clear that the MNS can’t advance its agenda with various levels of government until this issue is settled and government funding to the organization is restored.
Despite Roth’s change of heart regarding the merits of holding another election, he says he hasn’t changed his view that the vote should be run by Metis people – not an outside group.
