Saddle Lake Tragedy Troubles AIDS Activist

An outreach worker in Prince Albert says he’s worried the recent deaths of three band members in northern Alberta could happen just as easily in Saskatchewan.

On November 19th, three members of the Saddle Lake reserve drank gas line antifreeze and later died in hospital.

Ken Ward says all three were suffering from AIDS — a condition that was likely brought on by needle use.

Ward hopes to get the word out through a series of workshops that AIDS does pose a serious threat to First Nations communities.

The first session runs tonight in Melfort with the second taking place tomorrow in Deschambault Lake.
