Saskatchewan Population Loss Cause For Concern

Saskatchewan Party leader Brad Wall says all residents in the province should be concerned with the latest out-migration figures — including people in the North.

Statistics Canada reports that Saskatchewan had the largest population loss in the country from April to June — this, at a time when even Manitoba was seeing an increase in population.

Wall says the NDP government now has lots of money because of oil and gas revenues, but he says people keep leaving for better opportunities in other provinces.

He says northerners should be alarmed with the shrinking tax base.

Saskatchewan’s population dropped by 425 people from April to June, but the net inter-provincial out-migration was 1885 people.
