Saskatoon police chief Russell Sabo has offered his apologies on behalf of the Saskatoon Police Service to an Aboriginal man for what turned out to be an unwarranted arrest over the weekend.
Toronto resident Gregory Odjig, who is currently a visiting performer with the Saskatchewan Native Theatre Company, was arrested on Saturday evening in Saskatoon on suspicion that he assaulted another man.
Odjig was later released after it was found that officers had arrested the actual suspect in the assault.
Sabo says no one in the community should feel uncomfortable after dealing with police.
Odjig has publicly stated that he will be filing a complaint against the Saskatoon Police Service.
