A long-time social advocate and NDP supporter from La Ronge has announced she will be taking a stab at federal politics.

Anita Jackson says she, too, will be seeking the NDP nomination in the Desnethe-Missinippi-Churchill River riding whenever the next federal election is called.

Just yesterday, La Loche mayor Georgina Jolibois announced she would be seeking the NDP nomination in the riding.

Like Jolibois, Jackson feels any election campaign in the northern constituency should have at least one Aboriginal candidate.

Jackson, a member of the Lac La Ronge Indian Band, says she wouldn’t be surprised if more people put their names forward for the NDP nomination.

She also says people have until Friday to buy memberships so they can help choose the NDP nominee.

Jackson is currently the president of the NDP’s Cumberland Constituency Association and works part-time at the La Ronge office of Cumberland MLA Joan Beatty.
