The Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies is partnering with a major pipeline company to provide its students with skills training and job opportunities.

SIIT will be working with Enbridge Pipelines on its Alberta Clipper Project that will see a 1500-kilometre pipeline constructed from Alberta to Wisconsin with portions of it going through Saskatchewan.

SIIT president Randell Morris says Enbridge approached his school a year ago and has been in discussions ever since.

Morris says a partnership like this is another validation of the work his institute does.

He says planning will take place over the next three to five months regarding which skills and jobs need to be filled.

Morris doesn’t know how many students will be involved in the project — but he expects it will be significant, because of the anticipated variety of jobs to fill.

Construction of the pipeline is set to begin this August.
