A restaurant and bar owner in Creighton doesn’t expect to see too much extra business from Flin Flon when Manitoba’s smoking ban takes effect on Friday.

Rod Gourlay of RJ’s Motel and Restaurant admits there will likely be some smokers in Flin Flon who will go to establishments like his, but points out that it will be shortlived, since Saskatchewan’s smoking ban comes into play on January 1st.

Gourlay also notes the restaurant side of his business has already been smoke-free for 2 years now.

He says aside from the temporary situation in his border community, bar and restaurant owners are making the jump at the same time, so there shouldn’t be a problem.

Gourlay says if he doesn’t see an increase in business in his lounge after Manitoba’s smoking ban takes effect, he might make it smoke-free well before the New Year.
