Sonntag Puts Hope in Aboriginal Support

The incumbent MLA for the Meadow Lake riding says he’ll need the support of First Nations people in order to be re-elected.
The NDP’s Maynard Sonntag estimates that roughly 45 per cent of the riding is made up of First Nations and Metis citizens, and that’s why he says he’s focused much of his door-to-door campaigning in the Aboriginal community.
Sonntag says he’s been questioned a lot about the issue of the treaties. He says while the NDP recognizes the treaties, he feels the Saskatchewan Party’s position is murky, at best.
Sonntag also says the possibility that the Crowns might be sold should be a concern for remote communities, especially First Nations reserves.
