Three crews from northern Saskatchewan uranium mines participated in an annual mine rescue competition over the weekend.
Saskatchewan Mining Association spokesman Phil Reeves says workers from Key Lake, McClean Lake, Rabbit Lake and McArthur River represented themselves very well. In fact, the outfit from Key Lake finished as the surface runner-up in the proficiency category, while the team from McClean Lake was the surface runner-up in the first aid portion of the competition.
The annual event allows crews to showcase their rescue and response abilities.
Reeves says different emergencies were simulated for the workers at a site in Regina, and all were intended to reflect what could happen on the job.
He says 16 teams from mines around the province took part in the competition, which celebrated its 38th year in existence.
The overall underground competition was won by the Mosaic Corporation’s team at Colonsay, while a team from the potash operation at Patience Lake won the surface competition.
