A member of the Saskatoon Police Service’s street crime unit hopes some recent arrests will pay dividends in the investigation of gang activity in the future.
Over the last week, the police have arrested five people believed to be connected with the Indian Posse street gang.
They have all been charged with obstruction of justice.
Sergeant Wes Ramsay says the investigation was launched in November 2004 after a man with alleged gang connections was acquitted of aggravated assault.
Ramsay says the suspects are alleged to have bullied the witnesses and the victim into not testifying at the trial.
Ramsay hopes these arrests will encourage members of the public to volunteer information related to gang activity.
Those facing charges in the case include 25-year-old Greg Littlecrow, 24-year-old Gerald Littlecrow, 21-year-old Winston Littlecrow and 25-year-old Donna Littlecrow.
A 20-year-old female suspect has also been apprehended, but her name won’t be released because she may have been a young offender at the time of the alleged intimidation.
