Too Much Fish Liver Making La Loche Residents Ill

Health officials are warning people to closely monitor the amount of Vitamin A they are taking in, after several people recently fell ill in La Loche.
Northern medical health officer Dr. James Irvine says the sudden rash of the illness is likely the result of people in the area eating fish liver during the spawning season, which is very high in Vitamin A.
Irvine says, while the illness is not life-threatening, the symptoms can seem very serious.
He says it starts with nausea, vomiting and a headache that continues to worsen.
Those symptoms are followed by redness and peeling of the skin.
If the condition is allowed to progress for several weeks, some people experience a loss of hair.
Irvine says if anyone notices any of these symptoms, they should seek medical attention.
