The chief of the Saskatoon Tribal Council says he is focusing on other ways to meet the needs of his people living in Saskatoon’s core neighbourhood rather than through Station 20 West.
Tribal Chief Joe Quewezance says STC was not properly consulted for the inner-city project.
It was slated to house a grocery store, a dental clinic, a health clinic, and a library — and be situated near some affordable housing.
The project’s future is in doubt following the Saskatchewan Party government’s decision to withdraw $8 million in provincial funding committed to the project by the previous NDP govenrment.
Quewezance says when a project affects his membership living in that part of the city, STC should be consulted.
But he says that wasn’t done, and First Nations’ support was taken for granted.
Quewezance says STC will focus on other partnerships to develop more affordable housing, as well as continue work on new HIV and immunization clinics.
