Whitecap Chief Back In By Acclamation

The chief of the Whitecap Dakota First Nation is back in for another term.

Darcy Bear was chosen to lead the band after no one entered the race against him.

This is the fifth time in six elections that Bear has been acclaimed.

In a press release, Bear says he thinks the reason for that is his band’s employment record.

With 590 jobs for 250 on-reserve residents, Bear says Whitecap is a net employment generator.

He lists self-governance of land and construction of a resort hotel as some of his immediate development targets.
