2011 North American Indigenous Games Called Off

Some stunning news for First Nations athletes and coaches in Saskatchewan.
It appears as though the 2011 North American Indigenous Games have been cancelled.
Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations Vice-Chief Morley Watson says his office received word last week that Milwaukee had backed out as host for the games.
He calls the development extremely disappointing, especially considering Regina was prepared to host the games next year.
Watson says there was an extremely competitive bid put forward to have the games held in Regina, and feels this development confirms the selection committee made the wrong decision.
He feels Team Saskatchewan is a victim of its own success, as some other teams seem to use the province’s overwhelming success against it when it comes time to bidding to host the games.
Watson says efforts are currently underway to see if some type of Canadian competition could be held next summer or in 2012.
