The late David Ahenakew was remembered by the First Nations University of Canada’s students’ association yesterday.
Spokesman Cadmus Delorme says Ahenakew deserved thanks for his contribution in starting the school in 1976 — but isn’t sure if he got it before his death earlier this year.
The students also honoured former University of Regina President Lloyd Barber, who welcomed the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations to start a university.
The presentations were part of the student association’s thank-you barbecue held in Regina yesterday.
