Shore Gold is gaining Aboriginal support in its bid to construct a diamond mine in the Fort a’la Corne region.

Yesterday, the company signed an information sharing agreement with the Red Earth First Nation.

The deal essentially means the company will ask the band’s elders what the land was traditionally used for and then tell the government.

Shore Gold vice-president Eric Cline says the firm now has deals with Red Earth, Sturgeon Lake, and two Metis regions.

Cline says Shore Gold is also hoping to secure similar deals with the James Smith Cree Nation and Muskoday First Nation.

Last year, Muskoday filed a lawsuit against the provincial government after its TLE request in the Fort a’la Corne region was turned down.
