Preparations for this week’s upcoming Back to Batoche celebrations are on schedule.
That’s according to event manager Claire Belanger-Parker.
Belanger-Parker says people started camping last week to help out for this year’s events.
Belanger-Parker also says the week-long celebration begins Sunday with the preparation of a Metis Garden.
She says guests can also expect the rodeo, nightly concerts and an attempt to break the world wooden spoon record for most people playing one song.
Meanwhile a special dispatch is being delivered to Batoche this Sunday for a reconciliation ceremony.
The messenger is Shannon Loutitt a Metis woman from Saskatoon.
Loutitt’s says it’s her way of paying tribute all those who have fallen in war, including the 1885 Northwest Rebellion.
Loutitt also trained 12 youth ‘new messengers’ who will accompany her.
