The man who almost became chief of the Assembly of First Nations is back in office.
This time, Perry Bellegarde was successful in his bid for leadership of the Little Black Bear First Nation.
Last Friday, he defeated long-time chief Clarence Bellegarde by a vote tally of 115 to 97.
Bellegarde, who was a councillor on the reserve, says his first priority is to improve the band’s financial situation.
Bellegarde says the band has property in the Fort Qu’Appelle area that he’ll be looking at for possible economic opportunities.
In addition to running in the Assembly of First Nations election last year, Bellegarde has also served as chief of the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations.
