The stories of missing and missing and murdered Aboriginal women are being told in a new book.

Torn From Our Midst is a collection of personal stories from mothers in western Canada and Mexico, as well as some academic essays.

Co-editor Wendee Kubik says the book came out of a conference held at the University of Regina in 2008.

Kubik says once organizers started hearing the stories, they knew they had to compile them into a book.

She says while there are academic aspects to the book, it’s more about “heart and “healing” rather than academics.

Torn From Our Midst also includes a CD recorded at the conference.

The book is available at the University of Regina bookstore and the Canadian Plains Research Centre.
