The Canadian Association of University Teachers has voted unanimously to immediately lift the censure imposed on First Nations University of Canada.
Delegates of the association’s council met in Ottawa on Friday.
According to a CAUT press release, the recent changes to the school’s governance structure and the building of a new partnership with the province and the University of Regina for accountability were the reasons for the change of heart.
The censure was put in place 17 months ago to encourage changes at the troubled institution.
CAUT executive director James Turk says “the biggest threat to the First Nations University’s survival is the federal government.”
