Cheques Delayed for Credit Union Users

First Nations that deal with Credit Unions may be feeling the pinch right now.
Cheques from Indian Affairs have been delayed meaning payments that were initially sent out on April 1st are only just arriving now – or in some cases may still not have arrived.
INAC spokesman Trevor Sutter says there are a few factors at play here: the Easter long weekend and they can’t send out payments after April 1st until they get authorization from the Federal government.
Sutter also isn’t sure how the Credit Union’s distribution system works.
Meantime the chief of the Beardy’s Okemasis First Nations says he’s never seen a delay this bad.
Rick Gamble says some of the coordinators and chaperones attending the First Nations winter games need money right now.
He says the band is doing its best for all of its members right now but things will be very tight until INAC comes through.
