Defence In Severight Trial Calls Just One Witness

The defence lawyer for a woman who was shot by police in Saskatoon has rested his case.
Nick Stooshinoff called only one witness this morning — Layton Ballard, an EMT who attended to his client on December 27th, 2007.
Leanne Severight had been shot by police after allegedly threatening them with knives.
For that, she is charged with assault.
Ballard testified when he arrived, a female officer was applying pressure to a chest wound, and when he asked what happened, she told him “I shot her.”
He said when he asked with what calibre of gun and from what distance, she said she shot her with a .40 calibre weapon from 20 feet — a much greater distance than what she testified.
In the end, Severight didn’t take the stand in her defence.
Closing arguments will be delivered tomorrow morning.
